Food Saver Containers
Are those food saver green bag things they advertise on TV worth the investment?

I am a student on a tight budget and I live alone. I often have problems with food going bad before I can eat it. It is cheaper to buy stuff at costco in bulk but that is a lot. Do these bags work? Are they worth the investment since you can only use them 10x's? Are the plastic reusable containers better? Any experiences or advice? Thanks!

I love my green bags. They keep food forever. Do not wash the food first. You do not want water in the bag. Follow the directions on the box. You can get them at Bed, Bath and Beyond too. And I use mine way more than 10 times. Who is going to count anyhow? Be sure to not overfill the bags and fold them over as in the directions.

Buzzing, hissing and ringing in the ears. Panic attacks, zero sleep, abject depression. Are you all too familiar with this way of life? Is it because of your tinnitus? Maybe you’ve been told that you ”just have to put up with it” and that there is no cure. Not true. The good news is that there are effective therapies and treatments available and excellent recovery rates. So do not lose hope.
Did you know that tinnitus and diet are closely linked? What you eat can have a dramatic effect on the volume and frequency of the tinnitus noises you are hearing. In this article you will shortly discover which foods you eat influence your tinnitus positively .ie reduce the noises you are hearing and which foods affect it negatively .ie make your tinnitus noises louder. In other words-the food savers and the food sinners of the tinnitus diet. The best thing about this treatment is that you can begin the tinnitus diet right away, there are no side effects and it works!
Food Savers of the Tinnitus Diet
The basic rule of thumb is to eat food as close to its natural state as possible. Fill your body with premium fuel-lots of fresh fruit and vegetables, wholegrain breads, pasta, olive oil, eggs and protein such as fish, poultry, a little red meat. These food savers will provide you with valuable minerals such as vitamin A, C, D, B1, 6, and 12. Zinc is known to be particularly effective in providing relief from ringing ears. It can be found in oysters, lamb, pumpkin seeds, eggs and beans. Include between 2 and 5 mg. of Manganese found in foods like bananas, celery, green leafy vegetables, beans and nuts.
In fact you’ve probably noticed that this tinnitus diet is almost identical to the Mediterranean which is renowned for its health giving properties. A well known component of the Mediterranean diet is garlic. Garlic contains powerful compounds such as allicin and ajoene that help your body to fight bacteria.
Dairy products such as milk and yogurt should be goats’ or sheep milk rather than cows’ milk. Yogurt boosts the immune system and contains bacterium such as probiotics that keep the body in tip top condition.
Food Sinners of the Tinnitus Diet
Junk food, pre-packaged or processed food is the enemy of the tinnitus sufferer as it is packed full of salt, flavour enhancers and saturated fat. These food sinners will make the buzzing, ringing or hissing in your ears worse and are cut out of the tinnitus diet altogether! Have you ever noticed how your tinnitus noise gets worse after a take away?
If you want to get relief from ringing ears you have to try to promote blood flow to the inner ear. Excess salt however restricts blood vessels, increases blood pressure and reduces blood flow to the eyes, ears and brain. Increased blood pressure is directly linked to tinnitus loudness. Saturated fats increase bad cholesterol, decrease good cholesterol, increase triglycerides and lead to atherosclerosis, which again restricts blood flow to the ear. Finally flavour enhancers such as Monosodium Glutamate is broken down by the body as Glutamate. Glutamate floods the neuro-receptors in the auditory pathway and excites them to a point where they fire continuously. Caffeinated drinks such as cola, coffee and tea are also big food sinners of the tinnitus diet as they create unnatural highs and lows which cause stress, anxiety and depression in some people. In fact, diet drinks are one of the worst enemies of all as they contain the artificial sweetener Aspartame. This causes the neurons to fire repeatedly until they become depleted and die. Tinnitus noises become louder.
When you are following the tinnitus diet, keep a log of what you eat to help you to know if your tinnitus gets worse as a result of eating certain foods. After a while, patterns will emerge and you will be able to make your very own list of Food Savers and Food Sinners.
