is it worth to buy a food saver?

we're newly weds and my husband wants us to get one. i'm not sure if it's worth to get one cause i don't want to store food THAT long. any opinion?

I guess it all depends on your shopping habits and how long you intend on storage before use. I shop quite a bit at Sam's Club, which offers great prices on items like meats, but you have to buy it in quantities ( 6 steaks in a package). I take it home, break them apart and use my food saver to package each one individually.

The advantage is that I can store meats for months with no freezer burn ( no air in the package to allow freezer burn), so in the long run, I do think I am saving. I can build up a decent selection of meats and such and use them whenever I want.

I also want to add that I bought a freezer chest just for storage. If you plan on doing this with just your fridge at home, it will get filled up rather quickly.

Best of luck to you and I hope you can find this useful.

Powdered Milk Alternative from Honeyville Farms is the Best

Has anyone ever been to a reception and guest paid for there own food?

Ok, my fiance and I are in a financial situation. Our wedding is June 30, 2007. Instead of calling off the entire wedding and going to the Justice of Peace, we still want our ceremony. All of my bridesmaid have already paid for there dresses, as well as myself (the bride). There is a no refund policy. I still want to get together with family & friends afterwards, but at a nice restaraunt we have here in town, and have them pay for there own food.

How can I incorporate that on the wedding invitation. I was thinking maybe including a menu from the restaraunt with prices, and have my guest RSVP with there order & there check. What's your opinion, how should I do it? I know some of you may say it's tacky & cheap to do it this way. But, I honestly think it's definately a money saver.

I would suggest that you get with some of your close family and tell them what the problems is and see if they will either give you some money are help cook food for the reception. Sometime family come together and thing will come out great. Give family a try.

Whether or not a food saver or vacuum sealer will benefit your family depends on your family's lifestyle. If your family eats a lot of grab and go foods like chips, snack foods like cookies, etc that are in resealable containers and packages, and does not eat a lot of foods sold only in bulk packages, then it's generally a waste of money. However, if your family shops for things in bulk, and often has things go stale like cereal, chips, bread, etc because people can't learn to keep things closed, then a food saver or vacuum sealer could help you, however you will have to teach all of your family members to use it, and you will have to make sure that you always have bags on hand.

The canisters that come with the vacuum sealers often fail to live up their promises. To me, the vacuum sealers are another gimmick invention like a food dehydrator, bread machine, or a George Foreman Grill something that is an unneccessary novelty, but if you use it long enough you will make the decision in your own mind that you "can't live without it". I researched vacuum sealers in the past, and the cost of the consumables (canisters, bags, batteries, etc) did not make sense compared to the cost of foods sold in resealable packaging (almost everything this day in age).
