Food Saver Plastic
Can a vacuum sealer be used to seal 'regular' plastic bags?
I am wondering if a vacuum sealer like the Food Saver or the Rival Seal-a-Meal can be used to seal regular plastic bags. I don't necessarily need the air to be vacuumed out but I want to be able to reseal stuff like pepperoni or hotdogs or stuff from the freezer like chicken fingers etc (in their original packaging).
Has anyone tried this? I would not imagine it would not damage the sealer (as long as the plastic is thick enough).
Please let me know what model of vacuum sealer you have had experience using 'regular' plastic bags with -- and how 'thin' can you go with the plastic (ie a ziploc freezer bag has 'thick' plastic and a crinkly shopping bag is 'thin')
You can seal most plastic bags with the sealer, you just won't be able to vacuum them to well. Go to ebay and buy premade bags in bulk. I seal up all kind of stuff in these bags.

microwave sticker on box?
I have a food saver plastic box, which is microwaveable, but there is a sticker on the lid of the box, with the brand name. Is it safe to put the box with the lid (loosened) into the microwave?
There is some stuff called Gum Solv yep without an e on the end that cleans stickers off of things...also Goo Be Gone. However, I don't recommend cooking in anything that is made of plastic after seeing on the news about toxic emissions from the plastic. I am sure there are some new, safer plastics by now. The food saver is a nice addition to your kitchen.

For the last 10 years i have purchased fish from fishermen and vegetables from farmers. I learned to can and i bought a food saver and extra freezer. I have saved thousands of dollars and what we eat tastes better.
I bought a vacuum sealer for $5 at a yard sale. Works great. I get the bags at Walmart. I truly believe that removing the air helps prevent freezer burn. I still use zip-lock bags for short term storage or something I will be using within a week or so. I cut the vacuum bags along the seal and wash and reuse them. Placing a marinade in the vacuum bags and sealing is a fast way to get the taste all the way through the meat fast.
So, first, if you're looking to do some hard core food cooking, look into investing in a Food Saver. We love that thing.
Second…YAY for NROL4W!!!!! I'm actually looking to start getting into some working out again, and will probably be starting with NROL4W again. Maybe workout accountability partners?
