Produce Fruit Bags

Washing fruit before storing?
My mother-in-law insists that washing fruits and veggies before storing them causes them to spoil quicker. In other words, she brings them home from the store, puts them in the fridge, and washes them only right before she consumes them.
I bring them home from the store, wash them, sometimes cut them up and put them in different bags, and then put them in the fridge. She insists that doing it that way will speed up the spoiling process. My produce seems to last substantially longer than hers. Is it because I wash first or is she right?
I think it has more to do with her refrigerator versus yours, and where she buys her produce from versus your sources.
Fresher not-quite-ripe fruits & veggies will last longer than ready-to-eat food, and a better refrigeration method is going to help prolong veggie & fruit life.
I doubt that her method of washing has much to do with it really. But whatever helps you sleep better at night.......

Produce Traceability $93.99 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Produce traceability makes it possible to track produce from its point of origin to a retail location where it is purchased by consumers. Produce traceability is an important link in protecting public health since it allows health agencies to more quickly and accurately identify the source of contaminated fruit or vegetables believed to be the cause of an outbreak of foodborne illness, remove them from the marketplace, and communicate to the supply chain. Since many fruits and vegetables are eaten raw, the produce industry from farmer to retailer, works diligently to protect these foods from contamination. Despite their best efforts, foreign matter can occasionally contaminate produce in the field or orchard, in packing or processing, in transit or storage. Author: Surhone, Lambert M./ Tennoe, Mariam T./ Henssonow, Susan F. Binding Type: Paperback Number of Pages: 140 Publication Date: 2010/12/02 Language: English Dimensions: 6.00 x 9.02 x 0.33 inches |

Tips to stretching grocery dollars: Produce bag fruit fly trap. No Chemicals. No money.
When hosting a potluck and a guest brings a grocery bag with fresh fruit or vegetables, what should I do?
Once guests start arriving I am busy greeting guests, mixing drinks, introducing guests to one another, etc. Am I expected to get out the cutting board and colander to wash and cut up the produce?
Does anyone have advice on how to handle this tactfully?
That's a tacky way to bring something to a potluck!
I'd say to the person who brought it "Let me set you up in the kitchen to prepare those so I can get back to playing the Hostess tonight",then lead them in the kitchen and set them up to cut & clean them all;even putting out the platters or trays to put them on...Otherwise you should have another Family member or close friend help ya out by doing the work of preparing them...>=)
