Food Vacuum Sealers
Vacuum sealers for Canning?
I use my Foodsaver for freezing, refrigerator and dry items.. But, my daughter in law said her family uses their food saver for canning. They get the jars fresh out of the dishwasher & hot and add the hot sauce/soup etc. Then vacuum seal it and store it on the shelf. The more I think of this the less I feel it is safe. Anyone have any feed back on this?
I would say absolutely not. Food must be processed correctly. High acid foods like tomatoes or pickles should be processed in a water bath. Low acid foods like meat or green beans must be processed in a pressure canner.
If your dishwasher has a sterilizer setting you can use it but the jars must be hot and kept hot as well as the lids and rings.
I don't see the jars getting hot enough to seal and preserve the contents.
Very risky.
