Troubleshoot your foodsaver
Sometime people find it quite difficult to troubleshoot their foodsaver, since most of the families are looking for ways and means to stretch their dollar and their food and for that a vacuum sealer becomes quite essential for them.
However, there are times when things just don't go right and you start looking haplessly for some help. If you're experiencing issues with your Foodsaver vacuum sealing machine and looking for some troubleshooting tips then you can find some of the troubleshooting tips here below just for you. The first thing to check out is that whether you have plugged your Foodsaver vacuum sealer or not. Start with the most obvious and then work your way up. May be, in your excitement to use your vacuum sealer, you may have forgotten to plug it in.
Next step is to check the foodsaver vacuum sealer bags for any hole or leakages. Small leaks or holes in the sealer bags can prevent the vacuum sealer from doing its job properly and you may end up with faulty sealing. While the machine is creating a vacuum on one end of the bag, a tiny hole can allow the air to seep in on the other end and spoil the sealing.
Another thing is to ensure that food didn't' catch at the point of seal. If you've successfully vacuumed and sealed a bag of food only to find that air seems to slowly seep back in then try to check the point of seal. Food particles caught at the sealing point can give air enough room to seep in and spoil the entire show.
Always try to affix the lid to the Foodsaver vacuum sealer canisters. If, after sealing a canister, you are able to remove the lid without depressing the vacuum release button, then it is for sure that the vacuum seal didn't perform properly. Try to check that you've properly affixed the lid and that there is no food particles caught in the lid's rubber gaskets.
It is quite important to leave approximately an inch of free space in the canister before sealing. Sealing a canister that is too full can prevent the Foodsaver vacuum sealer from efficient working. A canister that is too full can cause food particles to get caught in the foodsaver's vacuum tube and hamper in the proper functioning.
These are certain very simple and important factors for you to check in case your foodsaver is not functioning properly.
Vacuum sealer! I loved mine like a child until it finally gave up the ghost in New Zealand. We kept our “yachting whites,” dry food goods, electronics– basically, anything that really shouldn't get moist or moldy–vacuum sealed. Not only does this create a waterproof package (and I mean waterproof: the bags can float and their contents won't get wet), but in the case of clothing, it will smoosh everything very flat so it takes up less space. Also, since you have refrigeration, you can use the “boil in a bag” feature– make up some meals before you go to sea, vacuum seal, refrigerate, and you can boil in a bag for dinner. Delicious! Peter is a boil in a bag master chef, and he is very proud of his prowess.
I’ve taken cooked proteins – chicken breasts/taco meat – on camping trips unrefrigerated up to 36 hours using an industrial strength seal-o-meal vacuum sealer keeping it relatively cool in the bottom of a kayak w/o anyone getting sick. But keep in mind that I cooked these items before serving them up. I’m sure proper storage and keeping oxygen away helps to keep it kosher, but you could take week old bologna out of a dumpster and cook the shit out of it and you’d be fine. They also dry age steaks for weeks and scrape the green off before serving it to people and that’s apparently okay, as well. tl’dr; get a mini-fridge for your dorm room.
