I need some advice for dealing with a leaky fish tank.?
Hi. I was given a 55 gallon tank with all of the accessories. The only problem is that the tank leaks pretty bad along the bottom edges. I was wondering if anyone has ever tried the aquarium sealer that you see at Wal-mart and how well it works. This is a beautiful tank and I would really like to be able to repair it and use it . Thanks in advance!
All you need is a sharp knife, some non toxic aquarium sealant and an old cloth. Use the knife and carefully cut away all old aquarium sealant. You may want to do this for the whole tank as the sealant may be old and could lead to other leaks around the tank. So use the old knife and cut as much of the old sealant away. Wash it off with damp cloth and leave it dry a few minutes. Apply a line around all the edges with the sealant about the width of just half your index finger sideways. Smooth it out with a piece of cardboard and make sure it is touching both corners and is all the way into the seam where the two pieces of glass meet and let it dry for 72 hours. Hope this helps. Fill the tank with water in small portions just incase the sealant didn't take in some place and starts to leak and needs a little more sealant. Better to get 5 gallons out of the tank than 55!
