Sending Baked Goods to Afghanistan?
My son is now serving in Afghanistan and I want to send him home baked goodies. I love to bake and he loves peanut butter cookies (some sites say they ship fine, some say they don't). I want to hear from anyone who has shipped overseas to their loved ones, what kind of baked goods ship the best, and any other hints you might want to share.
I do know what is allowed to be shipped and what is not allowable, so I don't need that information (thanks anyway). Just wanting to hear from experienced "shippers". Also, I have a food saver (the vacuum sealer for food) and was wondering if anyone used this for preserving cookies, muffins, etc. for shipping? If you have any tips on cheap packing filler (don't want to use pop corn, they say it attracts bugs while in transit), it would be appreciated. Your help is truly appreciated.

Food saver works pretty good. You can also used cleaned out Pringles containers so they can keep their shape a bit more securely. You shouldn't have a problem with him getting the cookies in time.
For filler in the box use loose wrapped candy, packages of gum, small packages of wrapped candy, small packages of wet wipes, socks, undershirts, hankerchiefs, tshirts
Also put in there wet wipes (they use those for everything), spices, ramen noodles,cup a noodles, instant drinks like crystal lite individual pkgs, ind sugar packages, some greeting cards to send home, pens, paper, envelopes, decks of cards, nerf guns, water guns, silly putty, things that they can play around with and laugh. I sent things like that to the guys and they loved them.
See if he has any single friends they love getting care packages too. Also if you know a child have them draw/color some pictures. Those definitely make them smile.

Thank you for this, one of nature's most majestic, most intelligent & social. In fact, this may be one of the truly few animals EVER in existence, including mankind, that the adults/hunters, the able ones, bring home food to share with those who can't go out: young pups, the mother of the pups, & the sick or injured adults. All they have to do is lick the mouths of the returned hunters, & if they had a kill before coming home, food would be regurgitated to all who need it. Amazing animals.
