Vacuum Sealer Oil
Is it ok to store nuts like this - using a vacuum sealer device to avoid the need to refrigerate?
All the research on the internet says nuts should be stored in the fridge (for up to 4 months before they go off) to prevent them going rancid due to their oil content. But when I buy them they come in a plastic packet and are stored on an unrefrigerated shelf of the supermarket/health store.
I'm wondering if it would be ok to unwrap the nuts from the original packet, divide them up into portions of say, one cup, and vacuum seal each portion and store it in the pantry?
And how long would they last if stored that way?
The guidebook for the vacuum sealer says nuts (almonds and pecans are the ones it mentions) last 6 months in the pantry if stored in an ordinary jar and 2 years in the pantry if vacuum sealed.
So my guidebook on vacuum sealing contradicts what I've read many times on different sites on the internet and so that's why I'm a bit confused.
I think so that you can store nuts just like this and if you vacuum them than the shelf life may increase, i have not vacuumed them but its been long time that they are fine. Can a foodsaver vacuum sealer.......?
I was wandering if you could vacuum seal olive oil?
It would be very bad for the sealer if you got oil in the pump- but I think you could take the oil, put it in a small ziploc (the kind without the little plastic zipper on top) then put that ziploc in another ziploc, taking out as much air as possible with a straw. Then you could place those two bags in a sealer bag and see what happens. If the little bags look like they will burst, just stop the air pump process.

very good vid. Ive seen alot of yank vids do the same, so its nice to see a UK version. One bit of advice tho, look for the “be good to yourself” ASDA brand pasta packs as they dont require milk and butter like the batchulers version. Keep it up rick, and stay safe bro = )
