Ammonium nitrate from cold pack spilt?
I like an idiot decided to cut open one of those instant cold packs containing ammonium nitrate crystals. i got some in my sink and counters and did not know what to do to get rid of it. so i decided to fill up a gallon bag of water and dissolve the chemicals and try to pour it outside somewhere. but it leaked in my garage and spilled in my yard. my neighbor and i washed most of it out but is this stuff dangerous at all? i cant find much info on it. is it safe to just wash down the drain or should i do anything more? thanks for all input.
Ammonium nitrate can be dangerous... there was a huge explosion many years ago as it can be explosive.
However you have done exactly the right and sensible thing. Washing it away in water makes it absolutely safe. It is not poisonous anyway, and your treatment will have got rid of nearly all of it. The only side effect may be good weeds and grass growing in your yard as its a good nitrogen fertiliser.
So don't worry... washing it down the drain with plenty of water is just fine! Enjoy the rest of the weekend!

Re-using ziplock bags?
I just bought the new ziplock air-tight bags (the ones that use the miniature pump to pump out all the air). I want to be able to reuse them since they are pricey (I have the quart and gallon bags). I labeled the bags so I wouldnt accidentally use a "poultry bag" as a "veggie bag" later. Whats the best way to clean them?
FYI - specifically bought these because they are air tight and I freeze a lot of my foods (it's just me, so I don't need to cook 4 steaks at a time) - so please don't respond with "just buy tupperware, etc."

Yes, of course I can fit my hand and a sponge inside the bag - I'm not an idiot. I'm asking people for their personal experiences with the best ways to make sure the bag is as sanitary as it can be. Using a sponge and dish soap isn't a "trick of the trade", it's common sense.
I would never reuse a bag that was used for poultry or any kind of meat. It's not worth getting sick over. Veggie bag, turn inside out & wash with soap & water, making sure they're dried good so that they don't get slimy.
