Horse Stall, Horse Barn & Cribbing Questions?
We're building a barn this week and have decided to build it at 20'x30'. The front wall will have a 16' opening on the right side, and 14' of wall on the left side which is were the stall will be. We'll probably only put in 1 stall since we have only 1 horse and don't stall very much. But my question is would a 14x10 stall be big enough for the average horse? Also how much room should be saved for food and tack storage? I have basic ideas but I would just like to hear more opinions. For the storage I was thinking 10'x30'.
Also just another question, my horse sometimes likes to crib and we just can't be having that in the new barn so what can I do to stop her from doing it? Them miracle collars didn't work on her. Is there something I can put on the wood or should I just try to cover up all the wood with like plywood or something? Or should i get some form of stall toys to keep her occupied, if so what kind?

I think the stall size of the stall at 10x14 will give plenty of room, mine is plenty big at 10x12. I would consider making it 10x12 and then adding an additional stall at 10x12 in case you ever wind up with another horse, or at times you may want to have a friend over with a horse and it helps to have a stall to keep it in. It won't hurt to downsize on the tack/feed room, because 1 or 2 horses won't require that much tack. You can tier any saddle racks and use the wall space and really cut back on the need for floor space. Also, try to refrain on buying up too much grain as it will sweat in the summer and ruin the feed. Winter is not as much of a problem. My barn is a 2 stall with a tack room, and I wish I had more stalls, We just bought our 3rd horse. Now I am needing more stall space!! Time to remodel!!! Also, try to build it in a location that you can add on to it easily in the future. Hope this helps.
