Do the Debbie Myer's Green Bags Actually Work?
I have been looking for some way to keep my fruits and vegetables fresh for longer. Are these any good? Can you actually notice a difference?
Our local tv station has a weekly segment on the news called "Does It Work?" where they try out all those "as seen on tv" gadgets and they give it a "yes", "no", or "maybe". They tried it on lots of different foods and they said the bags actually worked very well and gave it a "yes."
I found the green bags at Walgreens and bought a box and tried them myself on bananas, tomatoes, lettuce, fresh spinach, cucumbers and strawberries. I left the bananas on the counter in the bag and found moisture was forming inside. It seemed like maybe the bananas lasted a couple days longer than normal but I didn't see that much benefit. The other items were kept in the frig and after about a week, things looked a bit wilted and I wound up throwing most of the stuff away (like I normally do because we just don't always eat it....which is why I wanted to get the green bags, hoping the fruits & veggies would last longer and get eaten.)
I think the bags probably help the foods last a few days longer so maybe that's worth it, but I was a bit disappointed that they just didn't seem as good as what they advertise.

Debbie Myer Green Bags?
I just purchased a pkg. of Debbie Myer Green Bags. I am wondering if they really work. Yesterday I first dried all vegtables and fruit. I put a bunch of bananas in one bag and set it on the shelf. Then I put 3 tomatoes in one bag, and 2 cucumbers in another bag. I folded the bags over and put a snap on close pin on the fold to keep it tight. I put the veggies in the crisper. This morning I checked them all, only to find that that bag appears to be holding moisture.
I wonder how can they stay fresh if moisture is being held in the bag?
I am also wondering if these bags will preserve bread from getting stale?
it's a sham. they don't work. fruits actually spoil faster in these crappy bags than if just left on the counter.

Hi Karla, I am Karen Tenney’s Mom. She gave me your blog address and I’ve been following it with interest. I have a couple of suggestions that might work for you.1. Instead of using plastic throw away bags (ziploc etc.) buy some of the Debbie Myers green bags to store your vegetables. They are re-usable and the produce stays fresh much longer.2. We were shocked to discover how much food we wasted. We have at least 2 “must go” nights – everything in the frig must go – as in eat it, not toss it. Makes for an interesting blend of food for dinner!
3. We still found that there was food that we had to toss so Michael started a compost pile in the backyard. Look online for details on how to start one. It’s easy and at least it doesn’t end up in the trash.Good luck with your adventure. Betty Ord
