What weight of vegetable shortening equals one quart in volume when melted?
I am a former chef and 1 pound will yield you 8oz melted, so for 32 oz a US quart your going to need 4 maybe 5 pound or packages, I would use the generic shortening if frying, or lard, for pastry's go with the Crisco.

Race refers to the color of one's skin not their geographical background. Is it now offensive to state that someone is half Asian? That someone is half Arab? That someone is half Indian? That someone is half British? That someone is half German or half Russian?The point of the entire conversation appeared to be the geographical area from which Obama's father came. Your argument basically slams every American who discusses the history of their family background.Is it racist for one to say, I am one sixteenth Native American, one sixteenth Irish, one quarter Hispanic, one quarter Asian, and one quarter German?I do not see that as offensive hate speech. If so, then Obama is guilty of it himself when he mentioned his father was from Africa. The entire conversation was based upon whether or not Obama could identify himself with individuals of black American descendants of slavery because of where he came from.Just another grasp from a liberal Democrat trying to make something out of doesn't exist and to squelch the free speech in this country.
It is unfair to make the claim that “in America, race trumps national origin,” by using Henry Louis Gates, Jr. as a primary example. Although he does have an Irish great-grandparent and is genetically more European than African, even Gates didn’t know most of this about himself until after having done intense research and genetic testing. On the same note, although Eva Longoria is about one quarter Asian, she had no idea that this part of her national origin existed. However, when national origin is known, whether in part or in whole, as is the case in Yamaguchi, Ma, Batali, and several others, it often carries weight. Yamaguchi’s ancestors were not persecuted for their Asian race. Rather, they were put internment camps specifically because of their national origin. The University of Texas at El Paso defines national origin as “the country in which a person was born, or from which the person’s ancestors came” Although Yamaguchi was born in America and has been a U.S. citizen from birth, her Japanese ancestors are the reason why the second part of the UTEP definition makes Yamaguchi’s national origin not only American, but also Japanese. As you put it, when it comes to a matter of skin color, a person with black skin is usually assumed to be African-American. While the person in question may not be entirely of African descent, he or she, like Gates, probably does have at least a considerable amount of African ancestry.
