How many aquatic snails is too many?

Eek. So I have a package of 6 pomacea bridgessi (mystery snails,) 2 asolene spixi, and 22 ramshorns on the way. Ahhh, I couldn't help myself... $20.00 for all that!

I would like to keep them all in one tank but my 5 gallon is too small. My 10 gallon on the other hand is what I'd LIKE to keep them in as I was going to make it an all-snail tank (hey, I didn't know I'd be able to buy 30 snails for $20...) I know I can't do that now so some snails will have to go in my 29 gallon.

How many and which snails can fit in my 10g? I currently have somewhere around 5 baby mysteries, 1 ramshorn and an endless supply of malaysian trumpets. Would it be O.K. to add all the spixi, maybe 2-3 mysteries and 10 ramshorns? Also, what is the best way to vacuum the gravel? (I don't want to kill the tiny MTS babies but I know there shouldn't be so many. I also don't want to accidentally crush a snail.)

No such thing as too many snails!

I have about a dozen or so.
You can keep all 6 of the Pomacea Bridgesii in the 10 gallon along with the Spixi and a few of the ramshorns. The rest of the ramshorns can probably go in the 29 gallon, or a few in the 5 gallon. Just watch out for the ramshorns breeding like crazy as well as the malaysian trumpets.

It won't be at all hard to control the breeding of the apple snails (the Pomacea Bridgesii) as they take 2 to tangle and lay their eggs above the waterline, so they are easy to pick out if you don't want the babies to hatch, but the others will not be so easy to control.

Drop in a piece of zucchini every once in a while for them to munch on - they love it! Also, fresh dill weed is a great snail treat. Not only is it high in calcium (great for their shells) but it makes your tank water smell nice! I love to hand feed my apple snails little bits of dill weed when they are up near the top edge of the tank. It's so cute to watch them munching it down.

Your best bet for gravel siphoning is just to use a bit of air hose and don't push it down into the gravel at all. Just lightly go over the surface and then down along the edges of the tank. Most of the snail waste ends up along the edges anyways and the snails cling to surfaces hard enough not to get picked off unless you really try to suck them up (I know from trying! When I try to vacuum up pond snails I usually have to knock them off of the plant or gravel before I can suck them up - even the tiny ones.) So your little MTS babies should be ok.
