Bags FoodSaver Vacuum How to package baked goods? Help!?
Okay, I live in Arizona. My boyfriend is in the military, in Hawaii. I'm sending him a package and I want to send him homemade cookies. I want to know the best way to get them to him as fresh as possible?
I have a foodsaver so I was planning on vacuum packing them in a bag and sending them like that, but should I wait for them to cool completely or what? Thanks!
Line the box with a plastic bag and put a thick layer of popped corn in there, then the cookies and more popcorn. When the cookies arrive, your boyfriend will have intact cookies and popcorn to share. It is much more economical and ecologically better than those styrofoam peanuts that he has to throw away. And it works just as good and makes a great cushion for the cookies.

tilia foodsaver won't automatically seal?
I have to press the seal button, it then stops the vacuum pump and seals the bag.
This one is automatic. It has a built in blade so I know the cuts are even. It's worked well for 2 years with heavy use. Even now it's functional I simply have to press the seal button manually when I shouldn't need to.
If you are making your own bags from a roll you need to make sure that the edges of the bag are trimmed off. In other words you cant have even the slightest untrimmed edge of the bag over the sealing part, otherwise it cant seal.
Do yourself a favor and get one of those cheap Reynolds handy vac's, or Ziploc Vacuum Sealer. They are MUCH easier to use than having to drag out the Tilia Foodsaver all the time!
You can find these in your local grocery store where storage bags are sold, although the Reynolds Handy Vac is not being produced any more-so grab one before they are gone for good.
