Can you boil pork chops in a ziploc bag?
I have watched those infomercials about how you can use a food saver and then just boil the food in the new package. Can you use a ziploc to do that or will it melt and be disgusting?
No, man, zip locks melt, just try microwaving one and you will see. Boiling bags are made from differant, more heat resistant material. Sorry.

inexpensive way to freeze chicken?
Here is the plan:
Im going to cut up thawed chicken breasts into about 1"X1" pieces. I would like to package them one breast per package and then freeze them. They probably will not be frozen for more than 2 or 3 months before they are used. What i am wondering is how to package them frugally so they will not get freezer burnt. I have a food saver but those bags will get real expensive real fast. It seems like the GLAD or ZIPLOC freezer bags have a horrid smell and anything that I put into them tastes like plastic.
Wrap the food in saran wrap very tightly and then in foil. This works perfectly. You can then put these items into other containers with labels before putting them into the freezer. Be sure to date them

I do keep a well stocked pantry, approx 3 months worth of dry goods and other basics such as olive oil. I agree with musicdoc, and I believe that most families are very illprepared for possible disasters such as severe storms or several day power outages, etc. We’re not nutty survivalists, but we have made a conscientious decision to be more self sufficient.
