Produce Bags
How much does it cost to produce a bag of chips?
I am always trying to figure out how much products prices are marked up past the cost of production. I look at bags of chips, and some of them cost $3 or $4 a bag, so I am thinking that is extremely overpriced. Does anyone know about how much it costs to produce a bag of chips?
Production comes to like $0.30 per bag. But the manufacturer marks it up, the distributor marks it up and the retailer marks it up.

Mesh Produce Bags
Can the increased use of resuable grocery bags increase illness from produce carried in the bags?
If youre talking about just fruits and vegetables, no. Well usually not. Especially if you buy them from a legit grocery store because they are treated with so many chemicals and pesticides that no bacteria would be able to grow on them. And when fruits and vegetables decompose, they are not like meat or milk. They dont "expire". They do get mooshy and gross but they dont produce harmful bacteria. With this being said however i wouldnt use the same plastic bag for more than 3 weeks just in case.

It appears we are on the same quest this year, and I enjoy reading about yours so much! Wanted to let you know that I use a line of produce bags that are inexpensive and weigh barely anything (thought the tare is on the tag too). they have changed the way I buy bulk, even flour…and the gauze versions are great instead of cheese cloth for making cheese and straining for jelly (washable and sturdy). This is not a plug for a specific product (please don’t take offense!), just wanted you to know about a useful reusable item that I love (fair trade fair labor too). there are several versions at this site under reusable bags I wish you a clutter free, prosperous 2011!
